Company: Indiana University Department of Athletics
Representative: Jonathan Benedek – Director of Marketing
If you go to an IU sporting event this year, whether it be a football game on a Saturday or a soccer match on a Wednesday night, chances are you will see one of the Athletic Department’s marketing interns. This internship program gives dozens of hard-working students the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the sports industry while marketing and promoting Indiana University’s varsity sports programs.
What do students need to know about the IU Athletics internship program?
We look for about 15-20 interns per year! All majors and all ages are encouraged to apply! Our work schedule is flexible and can work around your class schedule. We want students who work hard, have a positive attitude, and get along well with others.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of working for IU Athletics?
Every day I get to work with people who love IU as much as I do, whether it’s students, fans, coaches, student-athletes, co-workers, alums, etc.
How would you describe the culture of IU Athletics?
We work hard, but like to have fun. We try to provide a beneficial experience for interns and help develop their professional skills. We want to help prepare our student interns for future jobs and/or future internships.
What positions are you currently looking to fill?
Summer interns for 2016 and interns for the 2016-17 school year (2 separate positions)
Can you describe your ideal applicant?
Likeable, friendly, and willing to go the extra mile without needing to be told to do so.
What advice would you give to students looking to pursue a career in the sports field?
It’s a challenging field to get in to, but not impossible by any means. It’s amazing what a strong work ethic and positive attitude will do for your career prospects.
