The IU Health Bloomington Cardiac Rehab is currently looking to fill two clinical internship positions. Juniors and seniors within the Health Fitness Specialist and Exercise Science majors – check this opportunity out!
Each intern can expect hands-on work in the following areas:
- Providing exercise leadership in stretching and weight-lifting,
- Taking resting/exercising blood pressures
- Analyzing health symptoms
- Counseling based on health risk factors
- Designing exercise programs.
Each intern will work with the same clients for the duration of the internship in order to build rapport and trust.
All who apply for this position will need to be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and should plan work 3.5-4 hours either in the morning or in the afternoon. This internship is for one semester only (or Summer I and II) and lasts about 15 hours per week.
Typically, 12 hours per week will be spent in the Cardiac Rehab facility while the other 3 hours will be spent working in the YMCA’s Cardiac Rehab program. The Y’s program is community-based and will only be intermittently supervised while the Cardiac Rehab program will be consistently supervised. Each intern must understand all of the internship requirements for their specific academic degree in addition to the expectations of both cardiac rehab programs. Each intern will also receive midterms and final evaluations in order to assess their progress.
All who apply for these internship positions will be interviewed. In addition, students absolutely must be CPR- certified and carry their own liability insurance.
Wanda Koester says the best part about working at IU Health Bloomington Cardiac Rehab is getting to build great relationships with the people. “It’s a feel-good place to work because the clients get so excited about their fitness improvements and how great they feel.”
If you want to intern in a clinical-setting culture that is upbeat, supportive, positive, communicative, hopeful, and optimistic, then this may be the place for you. Stop by the IU School of Public Health Fall Career Fair on October 28th and check it out!
