Current Company and Position: United States Peace Corps- Regional Recruiter
The Peace Corps is the preeminent service organization for the United States, sending Americas abroad to work with people and their communities around the world in various degrees of need. Joining the Peace Corps is a wonderful way to give back globally while enriching your own life. As someone currently in the application process to join the Peace Corps after graduation I was very excited to speak with Katie about the application process and her own experience serving.
As a Regional Recruiter Katie focuses on being a point of contact and an educator about the Peace Corps for her area; Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus. She also works closely with applicants from the area; the application process usually takes around 9 months. As someone who has served in the Peace Corps she knows first hand the in’s and out’s of the process. The new application process that became available July 2014 is something that Katie would advise seeking help with, specifically with your Regional Recruiter.
For Katie the best part about working for the Peace Corps is being connected to the agency that transformed her life. In addition she is able to work closely with her hometown of Cincinnati to connect potential volunteers with the best programs possible for them.
Katie’s biggest piece of advice for those considering applying is to just do it! Seek out your local Regional Recruiter for any questions you encounter along the way, but don’t be afraid to take the first step in applying. Additionally go to as many recruitment sessions as possible around campus and in your area to better understand the 27-month time commitment that is involved. If you have any further questions for Katie she will be at the Career Fair on October 28th.
Peace Corps will be attending our Fall Career Fair October 28th from 10:30am-1:30pm , for a full list of employers go to https://iusph-csm.symplicity.com/students/index.php?mode=form&id=3d67e1096357a7006b6554347bf183b5&s=event&ss=cf .
