In today’s society the line between work and personal life has become blurred causing an increase in stress levels and consumption of coffee. Learning how to balance yourself between work and your personal life is no easy task but it can mold you into a happier more productive person.
Don’t become married to your work. Yes, people are very passionate about what they do but obsessing over your career and the work that needs to be done can destroy your sleep schedule causing you to be tired and cranky all the time. Eventually you will find you have no hobbies, no friends, and no life outside of your work.
Manage your own personal needs. Everything from getting the proper amount of sleep to eating nutritious foods and exercising can help a great deal. You should always come first so that you can be healthy, happy, and productive.
Managing your time. Don’t let your job or others control how you use your time. Try to plan things so that you can be as efficient and productive as possible during the work day so you don’t have to take your work home with you.
Managing your stress. Approach only one task at a time so to not be overwhelmed. Sometimes it may be a good idea to put your phone on silent and stay away from Facebook so to not become distracted and then stressed because you are not getting your work done. This will help you accomplish what you need to during the work day so that when you are out with friends you are not thinking about everything you still need to do.
Learn to say no. This one could not be emphasized enough. Learning to say no can help ease stress and allow you free time you wouldn’t otherwise have. You can’t do everything, sometimes you have to just let it go so your other co-workers can do the job.
Remember, we all need a helping hand every once in a while. If you feel like your schedule is too hectic you can always talk with a professional along with taking advantage of employee assistance program services that are provided by some employers. Finding that work life balance is a continuous process that you constantly have to work towards. Like with anything you must use trial and error to find how you can achieve your personal work life balance to become happier as a person.
