One of the most attractive elements of Bloomington is the variety of unique local restaurants and stores that it offers. It is absolutely possible during your four year college career to take your parents to a different restaurant every time they visit. After you hit the milestone of your 21st birthday, another great place to take your parents in Bloomington is Oliver Winery. Oliver is a great place for a day with the parents, a get together with friends, or a classy date! It could also be a great place for you to work!
Oliver will be attending our spring career fair to find a student to fill their Special Events intern position for fall 2014. They are looking for a student who is interested in planning special events and who is in need of completing an internship requirement for their degree. The prospective intern should be at least 21 years of age by the beginning of fall 2014. They should also be prepared for heavy-lifting which is necessary for setting up and tearing down events.
I was able to speak with Sarah Rihm, the Assistant Special Events Manager for Oliver, about the work environment at Oliver. Rihm emphasized that Oliver loves its employees: “Employees have great benefits and the company goes well out of its way to reward the hard-working staff.” Those benefits extend to interns as well! As the Special Events intern, you not only receive a stipend, but discounts on wine and other products that Oliver sells!
Some internship environments can be challenging because you may feel like an outsider – it can be tough to know your place and where you fit in with the rest of the full time employees. Oliver’s internship is nothing like that. They want you to be part of the family! Rihm says that interns are welcome and even encouraged to participate in staff events. Staff celebrations include outings like roller skating, and quite appropriately, wine nights.
Besides the benefits of a stipend and discounted Oliver wine, the Special Events intern will have the opportunity to increase their wine knowledge! Oliver is constantly growing – as a company and out in the vineyard. The intern will get the opportunity to see that development and discovery process in action!
If you want to find out more about the Special Events intern position be sure to attend the upcoming SPH Job and Internship Fair on January 29th in PH 163 from 10:30am-1:00pm!
