Major: Fitness Specialist

Year Graduated: Dec, 2012

How did you get into this field? Networking, Military Background, Degree in a health related field.

What’s the best part of your current job? The best part of this job is that I thoroughly enjoy it. As a personal trainer I got to improve the life of one person at a time, in this job I get to improve hundreds of lives at a time.

What’s the most challenging part of your current position or the industry in general? The most challenging part about my current position is getting people to take charge of their own health and well-being.

What skills and characteristics are most important for success in this field/position?me The most important skills for this position would be social skills. Being able to talk to and connect with our members, as well as present to groups of people.   Other skills that are important: time management and technological skills. The single greatest characteristic that would lead to success would be the desire to spread health and well-being.

What does a typical day or week look like for you in this position? This varies a lot based on the time of the year. I work from home, so a lot of the time I am at home working from my computer. But when we begin traveling, I will be gone for days at a time presenting to members of my account and getting them engaged in Humana Vitality.

Whteam2at do you wish you knew when you were a student at IU that you know now? I wish I would’ve known how much I would be speaking to groups of people and I wish I knew that I was going to be working for a very successful and large business. I would’ve taken Public Speaking more seriously and I would have taken at least a couple business classes.

Any other advice you would give to a student wanting to break into this industry? Be as diverse as you can be, don’t specialize in one specific area too soon.

What was your favorite restaurant in Bloomington? Yogi’s
