As another school year is winding down, so are HPER career services events for the year. On March 28th HPER career services held an interview workshop, which brought in a panel of industry experts to educate students on everything from dressing for success to interview techniques. The first speaker for the night was Brandi Host, IU Senior Conference Manager. Brandi spoke to the audience on proper women’s attire for interviews; she emphasized the importance of being conservative with regards to the jewelry choices as well as not wearing perfume. Our second speaker for the night was Michael Red, an attorney at Fleming Stage LLC. Michael spoke on proper dress for males at interviews. He discussed the importance of looking professional, but also acknowledged that many college students are not in a position to go buy a suit and he provided students with alternatives to get the professional look without breaking the bank. The third and last presenter for the night was Dr. Maria Schmidt, an assistant professor in the Department of Applied Health Science. Dr. Schmidt spoke on interviewing techniques and how important preparation and communication is, including the importance of asking questions of your own. Overall the interview workshop was a great event that gave many students answers to their questions about interviews, easing their worries, and better preparing them to be successful when the time comes for them to interview for positions.
The handouts distributed at the workshop are available in the HPER career services center (HPER C110)
