As some of you may be approaching the interview process of summer internship and job applications, it would be a great idea to get some practice and prepare yourself. The interview in the application and selection process can be the most important step. Remember that being selected for an interview means that you must posses at least the basic qualifications, so this is your time to show what you have to offer and that you would be the best selection for the position. Before your interview there are a few things you will want to prepare for:
- Review the company’s/organization’s strengths and goals: It is always important to know what the company or organization wants to achieve. The more you already know, the more impressed the interviewer will be.
- Have some background information on the company/organization: You don’t want to go into an interview knowing nothing about what you have applied for. You can research the company’s website and search for current articles on recent company successes.
- What to wear for an interview: according to Job Choices magazine, most experts agree that conservative is best. This means wearing a business suit in dark colors. Shoes should be clean and in good condition, women should wear closed toed heels. Be sure to look clean, neat and nicely groomed. Your interview attire should look great to leave a positive first impression.
- Preparing for interview questions: Questions can range from your education and background to your personality. Here are some basic questions that you might want to prepare for:
-Why did you major in _____________?
-What functions and daily tasks did you enjoy doing most at your job?
-Why do you want to join our company/organization?
-Why do you think you are qualified for this position?
-What are your short-term and long-term career goals?
-What are your major weaknesses?
-What are your best strengths?
