The National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS) is a not-for-profit organization in Indianapolis, Indiana. Established in 1985, they are committed to enhancing human health, physical fitness, and athletic performance through research, education, and service for people of all ages and abilities. NIFS staff is a diverse blend of health educators and exercise professionals with accredited degrees, health and fitness certifications, and broad experiences preparing them to work with all segments of the population. The mission of NIFS is carried out through six centers, each working together as an integrated team. These centers include: Corporate Fitness Management, Educational Services, Athletic Performance, Youth Development, the Fitness Center, and IU Medical Group at NIFS.
Each semester NIFS selects students from around the country to enter their internship program. Interns become an integral part of the many fitness, nutrition, wellness, and medically-based programs housed at NIFS and within the Indianapolis community. The internship program gives students unparalleled experience in applying classroom knowledge in a professional setting. Selection of interns is based on the applicants’ interests, experiences, academic standing and career goals. As an intern within the organization, the student will receive a monthly stipend.
